Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Guayaba Education LLC collects and how it's used, in plain English, because teachers deserve a privacy policy they can actually read. Questions: hello@guayabaeducation.com.
What I collect
- Account email. If you create an account, I store your email address. That's what an account consists of.
- Essay text. Essays you submit are processed to produce scores, justification, and feedback.
- Usage limits. For evaluations made without an account, I use your IP address only to enforce the monthly free limit. That is the only thing it is used for.
- Waitlist emails. If you sign up on one of my "coming soon" forms, I store your email address and which product you're interested in, in my database.
- Payment details (not stored by me). Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe; I never see or store them.
How essay text is handled
Essay text submitted for evaluation is sent to a third-party AI service that produces the evaluation. It is used only to generate the scores and feedback you see, and it is not used to train AI models. I don't sell essay text or use it for advertising.
Audio uploads
Teachers can upload official exam recordings to extract the audio source. These recordings are stimulus material and contain no student information. The file is processed to produce the transcription and is not kept afterward.
How I use your email
I use your account email to sign you in and to communicate with you about the service. I use waitlist emails to tell you when the product you asked about is ready. I don't sell email addresses.
Who else touches your data
- Stripe processes payments.
- My hosting and AI providers process data on my behalf to run the app and produce evaluations.
I share data with these providers only as needed to run the services, nothing more. The complete list, with what each provider does, is on my Subprocessors page.
Deleting your data
Saved evaluations contain your scores, justifications, and feedback so you can reopen them later. You can delete any of them directly from My evaluations, and deleting removes the record from my database. Want your entire account, your waitlist signup, or other submitted content removed? Email hello@guayabaeducation.com and I'll take care of it.
Students and the student portal
Guayaba Education has two parts. The essay grader is for teachers only, and students never use it. The student portal (portal.guayabaeducation.com) is where a class can practice and take assessments, and it does create student accounts, in exactly one way: through the teacher.
How student accounts work. A student can only join with a class code from their teacher, either by creating a username and password or by signing in with their school Google account. There is no open student registration, and I never market to students.
What I collect from students. Name, school email address, which class they joined, and their work in the portal: answers, scores, saved drafts, and, during teacher-assigned assessments, activity signals that only their teacher can see, such as leaving full screen. That is the whole list. I never collect a student's date of birth, phone number, photo, address, or demographic information. When their teacher assigns a writing step, the student's written response is evaluated by the same AI engine that powers the essay grader, under an agreement that prohibits training on the data.
What I never do with student data. No advertising, no selling or renting, no third-party trackers or analytics on student pages, and no profiles built for anything other than the schoolwork itself. Student accounts have no purchases and no payment features.
Younger students. Where students under 13 use the portal, I rely on the school or district to authorize that use and to provide consent on behalf of parents, as COPPA allows for school use. Student data is used only for the educational purposes the school authorizes, never for commercial purposes.
Parents and guardians. Ask your school to review, correct, or delete your student's information, or write to hello@guayabaeducation.com and I will work with the school to resolve it.
Deletion. Teachers and schools can request deletion of a student's portal data at any time, and I honor district agreements that require data disposition on request.
Google sign-in
If you sign in with Google, I receive your name and email address from Google to create and secure your account, and nothing else. Guayaba Education's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Schools and districts
If your school or district requires a signed student data privacy agreement before your class uses Guayaba Education, write to hello@guayabaeducation.com. I support the standard NDPA used by the state student privacy alliances, and I can send a complete data privacy packet for your technology office the same week.
Embedded content
Some portal activities include videos embedded from YouTube using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. When a video plays, your browser connects to Google's servers, just as it would if you visited YouTube directly. No Guayaba account information is shared with Google, and no Google scripts run on student pages. Reading activities link to the publisher's own website.
